![]() The context, stakes, and location will change, and there are some fantastically dramatic set-pieces to be found in here, but it's a shame how, fundamentally, every encounter in Metro boils down to shooting people. But it also makes Exodus, in some ways, rather disappointing in its lack of ambition. This means, despite the spectacular change of scenery, it still feels like part of the series. Ammo and gas mask filters are still precious commodities, and Artyom still spends the majority of the game in scrappy, tense firefights with other men in gas masks. The brutal, kinetic first-person combat and lightweight survival elements that define the Metro games haven't changed in any significant way. Every location the Aurora stops at feels wonderfully hand-crafted and the weather, atmosphere, and lighting regularly change as the story spans the seasons, making for an excitingly varied game.Ĭheck out our Metro Exodus review (opens in new tab) and performance test (opens in new tab). It's a restrained freedom, limited by the size of the maps, but there's something refreshing about an open world that focuses more on detail than size. Metro has always been a rigidly, sometimes suffocatingly linear shooter, but now you have the opportunity to venture off the beaten path, scavenge, and explore. This is your first taste of the open world in Exodus, which is made up of several large, self-contained areas, rather than one continuous sprawl. ![]() But it's not long before the Aurora is speeding out of the fallen capital, along the Volga River, and into the wintry countryside. The game begins in familiar surroundings-the shattered, radioactive ruins of Moscow and the labyrinth of tunnels beneath it. I'm not even going to talk about how the IA is so 2005, how the game is heavily scripted and feel like my hand is being talked of my keyboard every minute.Īnother game overrated by the press, so they can stay on good terms with the publishers.I say road trip, but your primary mode of transport in Metro Exodus is an old Soviet-era steam train called the Aurora. The game still as some positive stuff, it's beautiful, the animations of the guns and hands of Artyom, unlike the characters, are very well made, the game still has that nice hardcore/survival twist if you play on higher difficulty, but frankly, apart from that, not only is it the worst Metro, but it's not even a good game, I'm really disappointed. It looks like an average FPS game trying to force his story into your throat) even the phases in OW are boring, as I suspected, and as with many games that have swapped their linearity for an Open World or Semi Open World (hello Mirror's Edge catalyst) all the rhythm and pacing is stabbed by an ultimately useless OW, with no other purpose as being a graphic showcase, being sometimes empty, sometimes a chore to cross (the first level the boat that takes 3 hours to use), besides spamming E in all the furnitures from a small abandoned house, to pick up objects (because in addition I really struggle to understand what is pickable or not) we do nothing more than in a linear game, only with a boring rhythm (I have nothing against games with a strong narrative aspect, but it is so poorly written. Therefore the more "intimate" and narrative scenes during the phases in the Aurora absolutely not grow on me or get my interests as the dialogues and animations have 0 emotions, the game tried to be even more narrative but fail to deliver.Īnd as if the purely narrative phases were not boring enough. I went on, played a good chunk of the game so I saw the majority of what the open world can offerįrankly, it's terrible, no tension, writing and dialogues are poorly executed facial animations have not changed since 2033 which already had bad animations when it came out. This game is such a disappointment, I was waiting for it a lot, with high expectation, and even apart of all the drama with the epic game store, it's a bad game. Please forgive my English as I'm a stupid French and we don't really learn this language at school here. The game is terrible and I can't believe it got positive reviews from Critics and player, I'm a big fan of 2033 and LL, I played them like 4 times each, got the remastered edition while I already had the original, I even read the book.
